Spring Weekend a Success.

The 2008 Spring Weekend was very a successful weekend for both our lodge and the camp. Service projects included the set up of cots for the wall tents, the waterfront docks being put into place, the maintenance of the fire trail, the refurbishment of several cabins and many more. I would like to personally thank everyone who helped out for getting the tasks done since it was not an easy one, with the extreme heat this weekend. The lodge also had 9 members seal their vows in Brotherhood Membership, 6 Brotherhood members being called out to the Vigil Honor which were Chris B, Reggie B, Brandon H, Dee Jay S, Paul W, and Glenn G Sr. A total of 86 new Ordeal members were also inducted. The evening’s banquet was carnival themed including popcorn, cotton candy, corn dogs, and games such as ski ball, and pin the sash on the lodge chief. Finally Lodge elections took place and Anthony B was elected as Lodge Chief, Michael R as the Little Lodge Chief of Weekends, Michael G as the Little Lodge Chief of Chapters, and Nick S as Lodge Secretary. Congratulations to all our new members and I hope to see you around at Summer Camp at Onteora.

Happy Summer and In the Spirit of Our Order,

Michael R

Section Conclave Flyer

Section NE-2B 2008 Conclave Hosted by Sakuwit Lodge @ Kittatiny Mtn. S.R. June 13th to 15th

The 2008 Section NE-2B Conclave will be the final one for the current members of Section NE-2B. Due to changes being made within the Northeast Region, our current section is being dissolved, and its member lodges distributed to several sections within the new region structure. Our new section, Section NE-7B, will include: Queens, the Bronx, Westchester-Putnam, Rip Van Winkle, Hudson Valley, and Theodore Roosevelt Councils. The lodges in our section will be: Suanhacky, Ranachqa, Half Moon, Nacha Nimat, Ktemaque, and Buckskin.

What this means is that this year's section conclave, to be held at Kittatiny Mountain Scout Reservation, in New Jersey will be filled with a bit of special meaning for all those who attend. Since the section is being redrawn, this year's merchandise will probably be more valuable on the resale market than usual. For those who have attended any previous section conclaves, this will be an opportunity to say goodbye to old friends, and to prepare to meet some new ones.

A conclave is a chance to get together for a weekend of fun, games, fellowship, and learning. On Friday night, you'll have a chance to get together with the members of all the lodges in our section - from Long Island, Northern New Jersey, Northeastern Pennsylvania and Northern Europe and attend the opening show. After breakfast on Saturday you'll have a morning filled with opportunities to learn about the Order of the Arrow, Native American traditions, and how to become a more effective leader. In the afternoon, the emphasis is on fun, with inter-lodge competitions as well as lots of time for you to try your hand at a variety of fun activities. After dinner, it's time for the main show, and then the famous ice cream social. Then, on Sunday morning, you'll participate in the election of Section Officers. While our section may be coming to an end, those elected at this time will serve in whichever section their lodge becomes a part of until the summer of 2009, and the elected section chief will attend the OA's National Meeting in Dallas Texas and get to play a key part in the National Order of the Arrow Conference (NOAC), which will be held at Indiana State University in 2009.

You Can download the Conclave Form HERE or on the Forms Page.

Message from the Treasurer.

Hello, my name is Jerry Sanders. Currently, I am the Buckskin Lodge Treasurer. I will be running for Lodge Chief at this up-coming weekend. I believe this lodge is a powerful force, and we need to use that power towards expanding our lodge membership, and youth involvement. Being a member of this lodge has opened my eyes towards a bright and prosperous future. I want to be a part of this lodge’s movement towards our former greatness. I believe I can get us to a state of efficiency and show this council and all scout’s what an honor it is to be a part of this lodge. Over the coming weeks, I will write you with new and exciting ideas that I plan on implementing if I become lodge chief.

My first idea is having a Fellowship Weekend. This weekend will be a fun weekend. Every brother that has been to a conclave will tell you how much fun it is. The weekend will serve as a catalyst in keeping new brothers involved. And besides, who doesn’t want to have a fun weekend, I know I do. There will be chapter competition’s, eating contests, committee competition’s, and a boat load of other things. If you have ideas that you would like to see at this weekend please feel free to let me know.

Amangi wulit newsletter - The Wulit Wulileu

Brothers:

Well, we finally got the newsletter off the ground, after a year of planning on, “How do we do it?” Joanne Foley came to our rescue and showed both of us and the boys how to use the program, and she now is our “technical advisor”. Thanks to Joanne and her vast knowledge in computerized publishing, we will be able to add as many pages to our newsletter as needed.

Our newsletter will be issued twice a year. The next mailing will be after the June 9th BBQ.

If anyone has any ideas on what that they would like to see in the newsletter, such as an “Historical Corner” or “Ceremonial Team Update”, or perhaps even an “O A Crossword Puzzle”, please send them in “Word Document Format” to 9334him@optonline.net or Agnesed@mscdirect.com

If anyone is interested in joining the Editorial Staff, please see one of us at the OA Meetings or contact us at Agnesed@mscdirect.com

Download the newsletter HERE.

Yours in Service,

Dominick Agnese & Albert Trotter

A Message from the Amangi Wulit Chief

Hi, I am Chris Butt the chapter chief of Amangi Wulit, and this is the first of hopefully many OA Newsletters. Everyone should be active in one way or another in the OA. Join one of our many committees, Ceremonial Elections, Brotherhood and Retention, (you “gotta” be brotherhood for this one), and the Ordeal committee. Ceremonial needs more people to help. Come down to the OA meeting they are allot of fun. For example, in March we are having a pinewood derby—only 1 car per troop. So come down to the meetings! Not only because they are fun, but also so you have a say in what types of awesome stuff we do!

A Message from the Amangi Wuilt Adviser.

Welcome to the first issue of our Chapter newsletter, I hope all Brothers will get the word out about this to those who have been too busy to attend our monthly meetings or service projects. These past two Sundays have been a busy one for our Chapter Ceremonial Team. They have done cheerful service by providing Bridging Ceremonies and Four Winds Ceremonies to Cub Scouts at their Blue and Gold dinners. I hope it gives the team as much a sense of fulfillment as it does to me. To see these young Scouts eyes, when the Big Guys show up to honor them is beyond description. Please think about joining the Chapter team we need your help. Our February meeting, once again, saw The Veterans of Scouting soundly defeat the Scouts in OA Jeopardy. The score was too embarrassing to repeat here. The OA Pinewood Derby cars were distributed to the Troops in attendance. Next month will be our races, good luck to all. Troop elections are almost completed thanks to the efforts of Russ, Al, Jerry, Irene and all the Scouts who participated. If you check Massapequanews.com some time later this week, our Chapter Chief will be in there. He brought the items donated by the Chapter to be distributed to the Troops overseas. This newsletter is being sent to those Brothers whose email address's we have. There are many Brothers we don't have, they never gave them; they don't come to meetings; they have changed them. I ask all Brothers to keep up with the Brothers in your Troop. Remind them of meetings and activities. See if they have paid their dues. Support you Chapter and Lodge. You and they were elected to the Order for a reason. Live up to that reason and the obligation you and they took. Don't forget your food donations for the Church pantry at our March 3rd. meeting. Till then...

Your's in our motto,

“Live up to that reason and the obligation you and they took.”

-Darth

sPRING WEEKEND PHOTOS

Well photos from the spring weekend are finally online. Let me explain the delays. The company that I have hosted the Buckskin 412 website with for the last 7+ years went out of business. I have been forced to move the site to a paid host for now. The host that I am using now does not allow the blog software which we have been using. So for now to submit articles to the site you can email me at dforras@optonline.net. We are already looking for articles as you can see there were no articles submitted to this website since February.

You can view the Spring weekend photos by clicking HERE.

Getting Back to Gold

I made a promise to myself that I wouldn't take as long to write the training article as I did to write the banquet one. One of the key ideas we stressed this year at training was communication and keeping everyone informed on what is going on with our lodge. This past Saturday was our annual lodge training weekend. It is the first part of a four part program our lodge offers which includes training, two weekends, and the banquet to close out the year. I am very happy to report that close to 50 people attended this year's training weekend doubling the attendence of last year's event. The participants who attended this year discussed the history of our lodge, how to involve new members, how to implement the OA Rep program, the practice of brotherhood conversion and much much more. The participants also performed a service project for the camp. The day ended with a game of "Who Wants to be an OA Millionaire?" in which 4 contestants tested their knowledge of scouting and the OA by trying to answer 15 questions with the help of their three life lines. All 4 did an outstanding job in the hot seat as we had one answer all 15 correctly. Another had 14 correct where as the others answered 11 correct! Bully to those scouts! As the day ended I challenged everyone in the room to take what we discussed and bring it back to their troops, chapters, and ultimately our lodge. With the responses and enthusiasm I received from these brothers I expect to see great improvements to an already outstanding lodge. I encourage everyone who did not attend training this year to accept the challenge of making our lodge better by attending training next year. It's day full of fellowship, service, and gaining a deeper understanding of what the OA is really all about and how we can all make it better. Thank you to all who help make this event possible. Photos to added very soon.

2006 Banquet A Huge Success

Well to say that this article is overdue would be an understatement and for that I apologize. But nevertheless here it is. For the 177 people who attended the banquet I don't need to remind you of the fun time that was had by all. The Swan Club hosted a great night. The food was excellent. For this year's gift, we gave out a back patch. But not just any back patch, a limited edition legend patch special for the banquet which was numbered and each person who paid for the banquet received a unique number. For those who have not received their patch don't worry their in the mail you should have them within a week. In addition to everything else that went on, our Supreme Chief of the Fire Ed M addressed the lodge and emphasized the point of brotherhood conversions and quality lodge something we should all be striving for. Then our lodge chief Chris Hegs got up, kept it short and sweet, and told us about the recent success our lodge has enjoyed. Awards were giving out to those arrowmen who have gone above and beyond not just the past year but throughout their entire scouting and OA careers. Congratulatoins to those brothers. As I said above we had 177 people registered for the banquet this year. Along with my advisor Ken F. we have a goal of at least 200 people for the 2007 banquet. Location is still being discussed. One thing we are very interested in doing is offering a discounted rate for youth. I hope we see more youth this December at the banquet. Don't forget to bring your friends, parents, girlfriends, or any other guests. Keep checking back for information about this years banquet because December will come sooner than you realize. Thank you to all who attended and I hope to see the rest of you at the 2007 banquet. Also keep checking back for pictures from the 2006 banquet.
